DECEMBER 6th

DECEMBER 6th
• Thought/ story:
“When God Created Mothers” Okay, so this isn’t really about Christmas, but it might make you feel a little bit better about the stress that mothers go through at Christmas!

• Scripture: Mark 10:13-16
Event: Blessing the children
Jesus Christ loved children

• Recipe:
Meal In A Mug: (Okay, I did throw in a couple of recipes that aren’t treats—this and the “Sloppy Joe” soup recipe---mainly because thay make your house smell really good and they are great to make and eat after a long day shopping/decorating/wrapping/ect. Because you can make them ahead of time).
Ingredients: 1 lb lean ground beef , 1 C uncooked elbow macaroni, ¼ C chopped onion, 21oz can pork and bean (not drained), ¼ C chopped green pepper. One 14 1/2oz. can cut up tomatoes, 1 envelope sloppy joe mix.

Instructions: In a large skillet, brown ground beef w/onion & pepper. Add pork and beans, tomatoes & sloppy joe mix to beef. Add a little water if desired. Bring to a boil and add macaroni. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 10 minutes or until macaroni is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Great garnished with shredded cheddar cheese, sliced olives, corn chips and lettuce. Note: You can make this as indicated or you can also cook the hamburger first and then throw all the rest in the crock pot on low and eat it when you’re ready (6-8 hours later!)

• Tradition: More advent calendar ideas-use a traditional advent calendar with pockets for these ideas:
 In each pocket have an activity written down, and everyday someone draws the activity and you do it together as a family (No peeking in advance!) For example, bake Christmas cookies, write Christmas cards, go see Santa, have a treasure hunt, wrap presents, make caramel popcorn, ect.
 Place a story reference in each pocket, and everyday enjoy a different Christmas story.
 Place a sweet treat for each child in each pocket (or a clue where they are hidden), and they can enjoy the sweetness of Christmas every day.
Put promises in each pocket, such as “I promise that ________can choose the dessert for tonight.”
• Small Gift Idea: Hot chocolate mix: This is great put in canning jars (obviously not sealed) with a cute canning label on the front and then you can also put a fabric top on it with the instructions included. This makes 8 quarts of mix:
Ingredients: (1) 11 oz. container coffee mate, (1) 16 oz. container of nestle quick, 3 C. powdered sugar.
Instructions: Mix all ingredients together. To use mix, use 1/3 C. water. You can also add vanilla if you want.

WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS

When the good Lord was creating mothers He was into His sixth day of “overtime” when the angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around this one.”
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic;
Have 180 moveable parts . . . all replaceable;
Run on water-downed kool-aid and leftovers;
Have a lap that disappears when she stands up;
A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair;
And six pairs of hands.
The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands . . . no way.”
“It’s not the hands that are causing me problems,” said the Lord. “It’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.”
“That’s on the standard model?”
The Lord nodded, “one pair that sees through closet doors when she asks, “What are you kids doing in there?” when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn’t but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, “I understand, I love you” without so much as uttering a word.”
“Lord,” said the angel, touching His sleeve gently, “Come and rest. Tomorrow . . . “I can’t” said the Lord. I’m so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick . . . can feel family of six on one pound of hamburger . . . and can get a nine-year-old to stand under a shower.”
The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. “It’s too soft,” she sighed.
“But tough,” said the Lord excitedly. “You cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure.”
“Can it think?”
“Not only think, but it can reason and compromise,” said the Creator.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told You You were trying to put too much into this model.”
“It’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”
“What’s it for?”
“It’s for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness and pride.”
“You are a genius,” said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. “I didn’t put it there.”
